Why 80S VOYAGE?
Posted: June 16, 2020
Many people want to know why I decided to release an EP titled 80s Voyage? For me, 80s Voyage represents an homage to the music that I love. I grew up adoring a lot of great 80s music, bands like Klymaxx, Cameo, Michael Jackson, Karyn White, and Pebbles, so when I set about creating music, I couldn’t help but pull some of these influences in some of the tracks that I created.
As you continue to follow my career, you will see that I create music that encompasses a variety of genres, from traditional r&b, to ballads, to house and dance music. But the first record I wanted to push was really 80s voyage because if not for the 80s voyage, I would not be producing music at all.
My very first sounds, the first music that I heard was in the 1980s. And I am a product of the 1980s. An extremely proud 80s baby, and I love the swag of the 80s, the music, the sounds, the fashion. So I wanted to create this retro-nuevo inspired 80s Voyage project.
Each song on the 80s Voyage EP represents a different facet of the 80s that I enjoyed exploring. 80s Voyage has the total Michael Jackson Off the wall swing. Funk on Mars has a Chic Inspired Feel. And 80s Concerto reminds me of the wall of sound that Full force created for Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam.
If you haven’t checked out the EP yet, please do so, and drop me a line and let me know what you thought! I’d also like to hear what 80s music you are listening to lately!
